Massimo Sirelli nasce a Catanzaro, 1981. Il suo primo approccio alle arti visive è influenzato in adolescenza dal mondo dei graffiti e della street art.
La costanza e la passione lo aiutano a conquistarsi in quest’ambito una propria “anonima” notorietà, confermata da numerose pubblicazioni e interviste a livello internazionale.
Il writing, lo aiuta a filtrare la realtà di ogni giorno sotto una nuova prospettiva: quella della strada. La sua ricerca visiva, indirizzata a trovare soluzioni nuove ed insolite, nasce per lui da ragazzo quando prende il primo spray in mano, e oggi continua attraverso altri strumenti di espressione.
Diplomato presso lo IED di Torino nel 2003 in digital e virtual design, opera per alcuni anni come freelance per prestigiose agenzie di comunicazione su progetti riguardanti importanti marchi nazionali ed internazionali (Ferrero, Seven, Fiat, Rai Trade, Bakeca.it, Sorin Biomedica, etc)

Massimo Sirelli dal 2006 è Art Director – Fondatore dello studio creativo Dimomedia, laboratorio creativo di ricerca e sperimentazione incentrato su grafica, comunicazione e multimedia design.
I suoi lavori sono stati pubblicati su importanti libri di graphic design quali: Tres Logos Gestalten, Los Logos 4 Gestalten, Los Logos Compass Gestalten, Tactile Gestalten, FlashFolios Tashen, Web Design Index PepinPress, Design Book of the Year etc etc
Dal 2008 è docente di grafica editoriale, portfolio e di altri corsi riguardanti la progettazione grafica e multimediale presso l’Istituto Europeo di Design di Torino (IED), nei dipartimenti di Interior Design, Trasportation Design, Fashion e Textile Design, Design del Gioiello e dell’Accessorio, Car Design e Transportation Design – BYT.

Quando e come è iniziata la tua passione per la street art?

Avevo 14 anni, e tante cose dentro da tirare fuori… poi in Tv vidi un film che trattava di questo argomento e il desiderio di mettermi alla prova su di un muro con delle bombolette spray fu tale da influenzare il mio futuro. I graffiti mi hanno salvato la vita, mi han dato un percorso e sono diventati molto più che una passione d’infanzia.

Quali sono i tuoi attrezzi del mestiere?

Nel tempo il mio percorso artistico ha preso direzione sempre diverse. La mia curiosità artistica mi ha portato a sperimentare e cimentarmi in molte attività diverse nel tempo. Tutte strade che ho mantenuto collegate e un’esperienza ha contaminato le altre. Ho iniziato con i pennarelli e le matite su carta, poi gli spray, le vernici industriali, gli stencil, poi la computer grafica per poi tornare agli spray e alle vernici ed ai pennelli… insomma non amo definirmi in nessuna figura delle tante che ho vissuto e non amo essere inquadrato in nessuna tecnica e in nessuna figura… le idee e la necessità di comunicare attraverso le arti visive sono i miei attrezzi del mestiere.

Come hai sviluppato la tua tecnica?

Istinto e passione. Gli artisti sono come delle spugne, che assorbono dal mondo esterno e convertono le emozioni in gesto artistico, qualunque esso sia. Io sono fuori dagli schemi, istinto e libertà… quello che mi piace fare lo faccio, tanti anni di passione mi hanno portato a creare un linguaggio iconografico e un tratto personale che trova continuo nelle varie cose che faccio

La street art e i graffiti appartengono ad un mondo molto sfaccettato. Come descrivi il tuo stile personale?

Contaminato? Si forse è così il mio. Non sono certo di avere uno stile preciso. Non è facile guardarsi allo specchio.

Forse dall’esterno chi guarda i miei lavori riconosce in qualche modo un codice identificativo. Di lavoro faccio l’Art director quindi è impossibile che la grafica, la pubblicità e social media non influenzi la mia produzione artistica e vice versa. Il mio passato da writer e anni di graffiti sono le fondamenta del mio percorso… ho fatto tante cose e continuerò a farne.

In cosa oggi Massimo Sirelli intende investire  per il suo futuro?

Ho capito nel tempo che l’investimento più grande che un artista possa fare è investire sulle “emozioni”. Provare emozioni forti sono di ogni genere sono la linfa vitale della scintilla creativa. Solo attraverso le emozioni posso garantire di continuare a creare i miei lavori.Massimo Sirelli was born in Catanzaro, in 1981. The writing helps him to filter the reality of every day under a new perspective: the street. His visual research, aiming to find new and unusual solutions, started as a child when he first used a spray and it is continuing today through different tools of expression.

Since 2008 he teaches editorial graphics, portfolio and other courses related to graphic design and multimedia at the European Institute of Design in Turin (IED), in the departments of  Interior Design, Transportation Design, Fashion and Textile Design, Jewellery and Accessory Design, Car Design and Transportation Design – BYT.

When and how did you find out your passion for street art?

I was 14 years old and I had so many things to express… When I watched a move on TV about street art and such was the desire to put myself to the test with spray paints on a wall to affect my future. Graffiti saved my life, they gave me a path to follow and they became much more than a childhood passion.

What do you use to paint?

Over time my artistic career has taken always different turns. My artistic curiosity has brought me to experiment and try many different activities over time. I kept all these different paths connected to each other and one experience has contaminated the other. I started with markers and pencils on paper, then spray paints, industrial paints, stencil, then computer graphic and then back to spray paints, brushes and paints… I do not like to portrait myself as any of the artistic role I lived and I do not like to be constrained to a single technique or artistic role… the ideas and the needs to communicate through visual arts are my stock-in-trades.

How did you develop your technique?

Instinct and passion. Artists are like sponges: they absorb emotions from the outside word and they transforms these emotions into an artistic sign, whatever it is. I break out of the mould, instinct and freedom… Whatever I like to do, I’ll do it, many years of passion led to a creation of an iconographic language and to a personal feature that is always reflected in the different things I do.

Street art and graffiti belong to a multi-faceted world. How do you describe your personal style?
Contaminated? Yes, maybe it is. I do not think to have a defined style. It is not easy to look at yourself in the mirror. Maybe, who looks at my works from outside sees an identifying sign. I am an Art director therefore it is impossible for graphic, advertisement and social media not to influence my artistic production, and vice versa. My past as a writer and my years making graffiti are the foundation of my artistic career…. I did so many things and I will keep on doing them.

Today, in what does Massimo Sirelli want to invest for his future?

I realized over time that the greatest investment that an artist can do is to invest on “emotions”. Feeling any kinds of strong emotion is the lifeblood for any creative spark. Only though emotions I will keep creating my works.
